Music Directors & Conductors Laureate
Swedish Radio has featured orchestral music since the day of the Swedish Radio Service’s first broadcast in January 1925. The radio’s orchestra has changed its name and form several times since then. In 1965, the two then separate radio and TV orchestras merged into one 100-plus strong symphony orchestra under Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache. In March 1967, the orchestra finally received the name it still carries today: the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
